3 killed, 43 injured in Samangan bus-truck crash

AIBAK (Pajhwok): Three children were killed and another 43 passengers injured when the bus they were travelling in crashed into a truck overnight in the capital of northern Samangan province, an official said Sunday.

Provincial traffic department director Capt. Inayatullah told Pajhwok Afghan News the crash resulted from high speed of the 404 model bus on Saturday night in Delkhaki area of Aibak city.

He said the bus crashed hit the truck from the backside and all the victims were inside the bus. Three children were killed and 43 others including four children and eight women were injured, he added.

Inayatullah said the injured had been shifted to hospital. The driver of the bus, who belonged to Hesarak Panjsher Transportation Company, had escaped.

Samangan public health director Dr. Abdul Hameed said all the injured were first transferred to Samangan Civil Hospital, but 20 of them who were in critical condition were later shifted to Balkh Zonal Hospital.

One of the injured, Arsala, 25, said he was sitting with her mother in the back seat of the bus when it crashed into a truck.

“We heard a strong roar when the bus hit the truck. Children were crying, there was a bad situation. However, the bus did not overturn. I and my mother got out throw the backside window,” he said.
