7 illegal Afghan migrants killed in Ukraine helicopter crash

KABUL (Pajhwok): Seven illegal Afghan migrants have been killed in a Ukrainian-registered helicopter crash in eastern Slovakia, international media reports say.

The crash is believed to have occurred on November 11, when a Ukrainian pilot and the seven Afghans were killed, according to Slovakia’s Interior Ministry.

Five Afghan men and two women lost their lives in the incident, the news agency Reuters reported. The helicopter flew too low in poor meteorological conditions.

The chopper was suspected of being used by human traffickers to transport illegal migrants, said the Ukrainian border guard service.

It crashed about 15 kilometers from the Slovak-Ukrainian border — an outer frontier of the European Union’s passport-free Schengen area.
