KABUL on Tuesday said there should be reduction in violence for the sake of successful peace talks.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday met on the sidelines of the UN-sponsored climate change summit in Paris.
At the icebreaking meeting, the two leaders promised joint efforts to promote the Afghan-led peace process and take on board all legitimate political actors. Ghani and Sharif resolved to act together against the elements refusing to take the path of peace.
Both countries were faced with a common threat, Sharif’s office said. President Ghani agreed to work together with Pakistan to vanquish the scourge of terrorism and develop cooperative relations.
Amar Sinha, the Indian ambassador in Kabul, said “talks just for the sake of talks and sitting at the table and exchanging good words would not help a country where 8,000 people get killed each year.”
The first requirement for any successful peace talks was reduction in violence what the Afghan government and India expected from Pakistan, he said.
“We have concerns about terror emanating from Pakistan and you (Afghans) have concerns about violence emanating from Pakistan,” he said.” If the Pakistani prime minister can deliver on these things, I guess we are on a good track and we will have peace and stability in the region which is very important development.”
The envoy said both the countries should wait as it was a good commitment on the highest level and expressed his optimism about the talks.
