Policeman among 5 wounded in Balkh, Khost explosions

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): At least five people, including a policeman, were wounded in two separate explosions in northern Balkh and southeastern Khost provinces on Thursday, eyewitnesses and officials said.

Police chief Brig. Gen. Faizullah Ghirat told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion took place on the outskirts or Khost City, the provincial capital, near a power sub-station.

According to Ghirat, Najibullah, commander of the Quick Response Force, sustained slight injures in the blast that targeted a police vehicle. But an eyewitness, Afsarullah, claimed seeing two injured people at the site.

Separately, a magnetic bomb targeting a police vehicle went off in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province. The explosion resulted in injuring one person.

Police spokesman Sher Jan Durrani said the incident happened near Alkozai Market and wounded one person. But an eyewitness, Salim, saw more than three wounded people at the site.

The explosion took place near the facility where an international conference on cooperation between Afghanistan and Central Asian States was underway.
