Helmand clashes leave 87 insurgents dead, claims ANA

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least 87 insurgents have been killed during clashes in two districtsof southern Helmand province, security officialsclaimed on Sunday.

Mohammad Rassoul Zazai, spokesman for the 215th Maiwand Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News the rebels staged an attack on security check-posts in Greshk district.

He said the militants faced strong resistance from the security personnel and killed at least 29 attackerswere killed in ensuing clashes in Khar Nikah locality.

Zazai added 58 more rebels were killed during clashes in the Washer district, where the insurgents tried to storm security check-posts.

One Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was also killed and two otherswere wounded in the gunbattles, the spokesman said.

The Taliban have not commented on the clashes, but the group claimed inflicting losses on security personnel in different parts of the province.
