1,4 00 kilograms of expired drugs torched in Panjsher

PARAKH (Pajhwok): Up to 1400 kilograms of  collected over the past six months in the central province of Panjsher was set afire on Saturday, officials said.

The 250 different types of expired medicine have been collected by investigation team of public health department over the past six months from different medicinal halls and clinics of the province, the director of public health department, Dr. Abdul Samad told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The medicine were torched on Saturday in the presence of officials in the provincial capital, Parakh, he said adding on one was arrested on charge of the expired medicines.

“The owners of pharmacies sell expired medicine on us, because most of the people are uneducated. Once I purchased six types of medicines, when I took them to my home and checked there, four medicines were expired, so I returned the expired once to the pharmacy,” a resident of Bazarak, Mohammad Samim said.

Lack of controlling Pakistani and Iranian border, the expired and sub-standard medicines have been illegally imported to the country, the officials in the ministry of public health, said.
