5 Pakistani ‘doctors’ held on spying charges in Badakhshan

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Five Pakistani nationals have been arrested on spying charges in the northeastern province of Badakhshan, officials said on Monday.

Two men and a woman were detained in Kisham district, the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Ghulam Sakhi Ghafoori, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

A woman and a man, both employees of a health clinic, were detained in Baharak district. “The Pakistani nationals, posing as doctors, were in fact spying for their country,” he claimed.

The detainees were working as doctors in Kisham and Baharak districts without permission for operating clinics and medical stores, a source in the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said.

The intelligence personnel were interrogating the detainees, the source added.

Meanwhile, Director of Public Health Dr. Noor Mohammad Khawri said the Pakistani nationals were neither doctors nor nurses and had no medical education.
