1 killed, 7 including influential figure wounded in Kunduz blast

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): One person was killed and seven others including an influential figure, wounded in a bomb blast in the capital of northern Kunduz province on Tuesday, an official said.

The magnetic bomb attached to a private Corolla car went off near the Kunduz Square at around 9:50am, police spokesman Hijratullah Akbari told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the bomb was attached to the car of Haji Qadir, an influential resident of Khanabad district.Qadir and a number of others were wounded in the incident and shifted to hospital.

Kunduz Civil Hospital DirectorDr. Naeem Mangal confirmed receiving eight people, including Qadir, in wounded condition.

Two pedestrians and a traffic policeman are also among the wounded. However, one of the wounded in critical condituion succumbed around 1pm today, Mangal said.

But Abdul Nasir, a hawker in the area, said occupants of the car suffered serious burn injuries.“I lay on the ground for a while. When I stood up, I saw a car in flames…”

Two men in the front seats were burning, but he could not help them, Nasir said, adding firefighters arrived 20 minutes after the incident and took the five wounded people out of the car.

A Pajhwok Afghan News reporter said the incident was occurred in mid of the road that also broken windowpanes of some nearby shops.
