KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A “500-years-old” copy of the holy Quran was handed over to the museum in southeastern Khost province by Governor Hukam Khan Habibi on Monday.
Habibi told Pajhwok Afghan News the verses of the holy book had been written in black and red colours on a yellowish paper wrapped in a cover made of leather.
He said the paper of the old book had lost its quality, but the verses were still readable because of the excellent writing.
Maulvi Abdul Qadir, a resident of Khost province, said this piece of the holy book had been brought to their ancestors’ house some 500 years ago.
He said his family had been taking a special care of the book during the migration period. For better protection and preservation of the copy, Qadir said they decided, after consultations with religious scholars, to transfer the historic copy of Quran to the Khost Museum.
Mohammad Amin Shah Ulfat, information and cultural director, said currently as many as 400 historic monuments were kept at the museum.
