80pc of Daikundi govt offices have new buildings: Governor

NEILI (Pajhwok): The governor on Wednesday said 80 percent of government offices in central Daikundi province have buildings and the rest would be provided the same facilities next solar year.

Inaugurating a newly-constructed building for the Economy Department, Masuma Muradi said she was in contact with the central government to allocate budget for the construction of buildings for the remaining 20 percent of government departments in the province.

She said it was important for government offices to have standard and high capacity buildings in order to effectively process their affairs. She did not name departments lacking buildings.

Daikundi, which was part of central Uruzgan province, was promoted into a separate province in 2004 when there was no building for government departments until 2011.

Karim Surosh, the governor’s spokesman, said the newly-inaugurated two-storey building for the Economy Department on an acre of land had 12 rooms including a conference hall.

Its construction cost 19 million afghanis paid by the Ministry of Economy (MoE), he said, hoping the structure would help economy officials improve their performance.

The economy department was previously operated from a rented and substandard building where employees had been facing several problems, Surosh said.
