PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): One person was killed and 18 others were wounded in a suicide attack on a government office in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday afternoon.
The suicide bomber blew himself up in the Excise and Taxation Department in Mardan district, a senior police officer told journalists. The death toll might soar, he feared.
District Police Office (DPO) Faisal Shahzad said the attacker’s torso and legs had been found. The area was cordoned off after the attack in Mardan’s high-security Cantonment area.
Rescuers said at least 18 people were injured in the attack, which left one person dead. The injured were transported to the District Headquarters Hospital.
In December 2015, 26 people were killed and 50 others injured in a similar attack on National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) office in the city.
The bomber arrived at the office on foot and opened fire with a gun before detonating his explosives vest at the gate, according to the police officer, who said up to 10 kilograms of explosive were used.
