SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Twenty-seven insurgents shunned violence and joined the peace process in northern Jawzjan province, officials said on Monday.
Maulvi Mohammad Akram, the provincial peace committee head, told Pajhwok Afghan News the rebel fighters formally reconciled with the government at the provincial governor’s office.
He said seven of the reconciling militants hailed from Mangoti village of Shiberghan, the provincial capital, and another 20 from Jangal Arigh village of Mardian district. The rebels also turned in their 27 weapons, Akram added.

He finally joined the join peace process and surrendered to the government in order to avoid further violence, he said, adding he would do whatever the government wanted.
Maulvi Lotfullah Azizi, the Jawzjan governor, welcomed the insurgents and said development projects would be launched in areas they were in control of and would be preferred to work on those projects.
