Delegation in Nangarhar to assess situation near Durand Line

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At the head of a delegation, Border and Tribal Affairs Minister Gulab Mangal arrived in eastern Nangarhar province to assess the security situation in the province and districts along the Durand Line, an official said on Tuesday.

The Mangal-led delegation that arrived in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, comprised of representatives from the interior, defence ministries and the spy service, the Independent Directorate of Local Governance and the Afghanistan Natural Disaster Management Authority, according to Ataullah Khogyani, the Nangarhar governor’s spokesman.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News the delegation would analyse security situation in the province. Governor Salim Khan Kunduzi updated the delegates on the situation of the province and said security forces in districts regularly attended their duty stations.

The governor said people, youth, religious scholars, tribal elders, influential figures, civil society supported the Afghan security forces and even used to visit checkpoints to praise them. Kunduzi said internally displaced persons had been provided with assistance in-time.

Mangal said they visited the province to closely monitor security of Nangarhar near the Durand Line and analyse security of the entire province.

Necessary assistance would be provided after a survey to families who were recently displaced by recent insecurity in Gushta and Lalpura districts, he added.
