55-year-old woman gunned down in Herat

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok):  Unidentified gunmen shot dead a woman in the capital of western Herat province on Sunday, an official said.

Police spokesman Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News masked gunmen on motorcycles killed the 55-year-old woman when she was leaving a vehicle in the fourth municipal district of Herat City.

The cause of the incident was not yet known, however, police have opened an investigation to arrest the killers.

Abdul Rahman Jami, spokesman for the zonal hospital, identified the slain woman as Sakina whose body had been brought to the hospital.

Resident Aziz Ahmad expressed concern over the growing number of targeted attacks. He said unknown gunmen shot dead an Iranian national in Park-e-Taraqi locality on Friday.   

The Herat local people association warned if security forces could not stop terrorists, people themselves would take action against them.

According to a statement from the association, more than 10 persons have been killed in the past two weeks.
