Govt has no intension to reform electoral system

KABUL said on Thursday, asking the parliament to pass the new legislative decree on electoral reform for the sake of ending instability.

After his decree was rejected, the president issued another decree regarding electoral reforms with some amendments.

FEFA programme manager, Mohammad Naeem Asghari, told a press conference here that in addition to not having a political will for electoral reform, the government has been trying to further delay the long due parliamentary and district council elections.

“If the electoral system is not reformed, we can’t hold elections in October because it would be worse than 2014 elections,” he said.

“ If parliamentarians have any doubt, they should speak up, otherwise they should not reject the new decree on the basis of their personal and political interests,” he said, calling electoral reform as mandatory to to pave the way for free and fair elections to be acceptable to the people.
