Women, children among 17 wounded in accident

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Seventeen people, including women and children, have been killed in a traffic accident in southern Helmand province, an official said on Monday.

The mishap occurred on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in the Mirza area of Greshk district on Sunday night, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Omar Zwak said the injured were under treatment at the district hospital. “A coach and car fell into a crater caused by a Taliban-planted bomb in the area, which is partially under insurgents’ control.”

A Greshk hospital worker, requesting not to be named, confirmed to Pajhwok receiving 17 wounded people from the scene of the accident last night.

Some of the injured have already been discharged after being administered first medical aid, according to the source, who said the rest were under treatment.
