Senior Taliban leader Nanay detained from Quetta seminary

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A senior Afghan Taliban’s southwestern Balochistan province, a news report said on Wednesday.

 Mullah Ahmadullah Nanay was arrested from a seminary belonging to Mullah Abdul Hakim in the Satellite Town neighbourhood of Quetta late on Tuesday.

The Express Tribune quoted unnamed sources in the Afghan Taliban movement as saying that Mullah Nanay was a senior leader of the movement’s 23-member Leadership Council. He also headed the Taliban’s recruitment commission.

During Taliban’s rule, Mullah Nanay served as governor of Herat and Balkh provinces, as well as minister for public works during. He is said to have close connections with Taliban commander Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.
