Ghani begins interviewing electoral bodies’ nominees

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Monday started interviewing the selected nominees for the position of commissioners on the two electoral bodies, a statement said on Monday.

The statement from the Presidential Palace said Ghani launched interviewing the applicants who had been shortlisted and their names submitted to the president by the selection committee.

The interviewing process at the Presidential Palace was also attended by Mohammad Sarwar Danish, 2nd vice president, CEO Abdullah Abdullah, Attorney General Farid Hamidi, Supreme Court’s High Council member Mohammad Zaman Sangari and the Independent Commission for Overseeing the Implementation of Constitution (ICOIC) head, Dr. Mohammad Qasam Hashimzai.

From among the final commissioner-designate list, all eligible individuals would be appointed by considering accuracy and transparency, Ghani said.

The selection committee has recommended 21 individuals as commsioners-designate on the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and 15 for the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission.

The final lists were sent to the Presidential Palace on November 9.
