Anti-Taliban commander among 3 dead in Balkh blast

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): An irresponsible militia commander was among three people killed in an in northern Balkh province on Friday, police said.

The explosive device went off as people left at the end of a buzkashi match in Khulm district, the deputy police chief for Balkh, Brig. Gen. Abdur Razzaq Qaderi, said.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion in Khwaja Baran area killed commander Haji Zmaray, his driver and a civilian. Another five people were wounded in the blast. 

The injured included a bodyguard of the anti-Taliban commander and three ordinary people, the police officer said, the wounded had been evacuated to hospital.

Resident Mohammad Askar said Haji Zmaray was the target of the blast, which happened outside the match venue.  There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
