Nabi becomes No. 2 ranked all-rounder

KABUL’s Mohammad Nabi has been placed the number-two ranked all-rounder in the latest ICC player rankings in one-day internationals (ODIs).

Shakib Al Hasan is the number-one ranked all-rounder in ODIs, followed by Nabi and Angelo Mathews of Sri Lanka in the latest ranks released after the five ODI series between South Africa and Sari Lanka.

South Africa returned to the top of the ICC ODI Team Rankings after sweeping aside Sri Lanka 5-0 at the SuperSport Park in Centurion on Friday.

However, Australia`s 0-2 defeat against New Zealand and South Africa`s own 5-0 win over Sri Lanka means South Africa has now moved ahead of the world champions.

To retain the top spot, South Africa will have to win the series by 3-2 or better. If New Zealand wins by 3-2, then South Africa will slip behind Australia by a fraction of a point. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka have dropped three points following its performance in South Africa.

While it has stayed in sixth position on 98 points, its pre-series 10-point lead over Bangladesh has been reduced to seven points, with eighth-ranked Pakistan another two points behind.

Cricket expert Rahim Gul Sarwan said Nabi’s evaluation was a great achievement for Afghanistan being an associate member of the ICC. He said if Nabi performed well against Zimbabwe in their five ODI series, he could improve further.
