Closure of Torkham cannot halt movement of terrorists: Khattak

KABUK (Pajhwok): Pakistani politician on Friday showed disagreement over the country’s security establishment decision to close Torkham and Spoinboldak crossing.

Afrasiab Khattak, senior member of the Awami National Party (ANP), told Pajhwok Afghan News the closure of crossing points on Durand Line would further increase tension between the two countries.

He said there were hundreds of crossing points along the Durand Line between Afghanistan, adding closing of Torkham would not stop terrorist movement but would definitely raise tension between the two neighbours.

The former Pakistani senator said Islamabad failed to implement the National Action Plane (NAP), a strategy formulated by all Pakistani political parties and military after the Army Public School carnage to chase the terrorist.

He said Pakistan wanted to divert public anger from recent terrorist attacks to blame Afghanistan which was situated 1,000 Kilometres away from the Sahwan, a place where Lal Shahbaz Qalandar Shrine was located and hit by a suicide attack overnight leaving over 80 people dead and hundreds hurt.

Did the Afghans stop the implementation of NAP? Asked Khattak.
