Coalminer among 3 dead in Samangan incidents

AIBAK (Pajhwok): Three people including a coalminer were killed and two others wounded in two separate incidents in the Dara-i-Sauf district of northern Samangan province, an official said on Thursday.

Ahmad Ali Hassani, the district’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News more than 20 miners were busy extracting coal in the Dahana Tor Coal Mine tunnel. One miner was killed and a second wounded as the tunnel collapsed.

“The dead and wounded miners were evacuated by evacuated and handed over to their families by colleagues. The injured mine worker was then rushed to a hospital and his condition is stable now.”

Hassani added a delegation tasked by the district administration to investigate the incident had arrived in the area.

Meanwhile, a coal-laden truck flipped over on its way to the district centre and rammed into a roadside residence at around 6am. Due to the overturning of the truck, two male inmates were killed and a third wounded.

Over the past 11 months, in five different incidents in coalmines in Dara-i-Sauf Bala district, 12 mine workers have been killed. Amateur extraction from tunnels is cited as the main reason for such casualties.
