4 lawmakers injured in Kabul funeral attack

KABUL chairman Fazl Hadi Muslimyar was among four lawmakers who sustained injuries in yesterday’s triple suicide blasts that ripped through a funeral in Kabul.

The funeral for the son of Senate deputy chairman Muhammad Alam Ezadyar was attacked by three suicide bombers in Badam Bagh area, killing at least seven people and injuring above 100 others.

High ranking government officials, including CEO Abdullah Abdullah, were attending the funeral for Salim Ezadyar, who died on Friday in a violent protest.

Meshrano Jirga secretary Tayyib Atta told Pajhwok Afghan News that four members of the National Assembly were wounded in the incident.

They included Muslimyar, senators Baz Mohammad Zurmati and Mohammad Usman Rahmani and Wolesi Jirga (Lower House) member from Samangan province Abdullah Mohammadi.

Atta added that Muslimyar and Rahmani had sustained superficial wounds and had been discharged from hospital. However, Baz Mohammad Zurmati remained hospitalized and Mohammadi’s condition was said to be satisfactory.

The Ministry of Public Health said the successive explosions killed seven people and injured 119 others.

Abdullah, acting foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani, Amarullah Salih, State Minister for reforms in security sector, some cabinet ministers and members of the National Assembly had participated in the funeral, but they survived.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
