Mohaqiq wants deal on govt formation enforced in toto

KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Mohaqiq has said the purpose of the newly-created alliance is to ensure an active role for the people in government affairs.

Addressing reporters late on Monday, he said the coalition cobbled together two weeks back had six main goals. The unity government was created on the basis of an agreement and all parties should be given equal share.

Acting foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani, chief executive of the Jamiat-i-Islami Afghanistan (JIA), Atta Mohammad Noor and Mohaqiq, leader of the Hezb-i-Wahdat Mardumi, recently met VP Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum in Ankara.

They agreed on the establishment of the new political front named “High Council of Coalition for Salvation of Afghanistan”. They vowed to ensure the full implementation of the deal on government formation, restoration of legitimate powers of VP Gen. Dostum, ministers, the CEO and his deputies.

Mohaqiq warned that centralisation of powers might push the government toward collapse and asked for changes in the system. Drastic changes were needed in security, governance and administrations, he stressed, calling for the agreements to be enforced in toto.

The deputy chief executive officer said the alliance, if its demands were not met would, announce its future line of action upon the return of other members from Turkey.
