JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Daesh gunmen killed a prayer leader in eastern Nangarhar province on Monday night, making him the third cleric to be killed in a month.
Two Islamic scholars were recently killed in Behsud and Chaparhar districts –one by Taliban and another by Daesh militants.
The latest incident took place in Chaparhar district where Daesh fighters killed a mosque on Monday night in Kandi area around 11pm, said the governor’s spokesman.
Attaullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News the imam, Abdur Rahman, was sleeping in the mosque when came under attack.
Five days back, an imam was killed by unidentified armed men in Dago area when he was walking to the mosque for evening prayers.
Another Islamic scholar was killed in Behsud district late in August. Local officials have accused Taliban for the murder.
