4 dead, 34 injured in Nangarhar bus plunge

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Four children died and 34 people including women and children injured when their bus plunged into a deep ravine in Pachiragam district of Nangarhar province, officials said on Saturday.

Qari Hijratullah, the Pachiragam district administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the coaster bus fell into a ravine from a hilltop in Kuwanj village near the Tora Bora mountainous area late on Friday.

The people onboard were heading to attend an engagement ceremony and the accident occurred due to driver’s recklessness, he said.

The vehicle was parked on the roadside, but it moved on itself because the driver had not pulled the handbrake up, Hijratullah added.

He said four children were killed and 34 others people including, women, children and men were injured in the plunge.

Governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, said the injured were evacuated to a local health center in Pachiragam district and to Jalalabad Civil Hospital for treatment.

An eyewitness, Sardar Khan, said he saw many people injured in the accident being shifted by cars and ambulances to hospitals.
