6 civilians killed and wounded in Logar gun attack

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Three civilians were killed and as many injured when Taliban gunmen opened fire at a local police vehicle in the Mohammad Agha district of central Logar province, officials said on Friday.

The incident happened in Waghjan bazaar on the Kabul-Paktia highway on Thursday afternoon, the Mohammad Agha district administrative chief told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Mohammad Rahim Amin said the insurgents attacked the Afghan Local Police (ALP) pick up vehicle when it reached the bazaar. Six civilians who were busy doing their work suffered casualties in the gun attack, he added.

An eyewitness, Jamshid, said: “I was in my shop when suddenly a burst of gunfire started. As I went outside to check, I saw Taliban firing at an ALP vehicle.”

He said seven people suffered casualties in the incident that brought traffic on the Kabul-Paktia road to a halt for half an hour.

The governor’s spokesman, Salim Saleh, confirmed the incident and said the ALP men had escaped unhurt.

The Taliban have so far said nothing in this regard.
