3 injured in clash over Ghazni PC head election

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): An armed clash over the election of the provincial council head in southern Ghazni province left three people injured on Wednesday, an official said.

A source in the provincial council office, wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash occurred inside the council building at about 2pm today.

He said three individuals suffered bullet injuries in the conflict before police reached the area and brought the situation under control.

The clash occurred when election between PC members Nasir Ahmad Faqiri and Latifi Akbari was ongoing for the slot of the provincial council chairmanship. He said one of the injured was a bodyguard of Faqiri. He didn’t know about the two others.

Meanwhile, a member of the Ghazni provincial council, Esmatullah Jamradwal, confirmed the clash. However, he didn’t go into details.

But police chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Zaman said no bullets were fired and there was a verbal argument between the public representatives.

“A verbal clash occurred but police were able to prevent the situation from turning violent. Currently, the public representatives are at the police station.” He said a tasked team had been assigned with investigation into the incident.

Earlier in the day, Amanullah Kamran, deputy head of the provincial council, said the election for leadership board of the provincial council was yet to be held due to internal problems and political interference.

Some of councils elected their leadership boards on the day one when the elections began on Saturday.

The Ghazni provincial council elected Amanullah Kamran as deputy head and Hamidullah Sarwari as secretary on Tuesday. The chairman is yet to be elected.
