Mohaqiq remarks against national interest: Senate

KABUL or upper house members on Sunday came hard on second deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq for supporting Afghans fighting in Syria.

According to reports, Mohaqiq during his visit to Tehran, the capital of Iran, in a meeting praised Gen. Qasim Sulaiman, a leader of Lashkar-i-Fatimyun in Syria and soldiers including Afghans fighting in that country.

Sulaiman is one of the founders of Fatimiyun Brigade in Syria and he has encouraged Afghan refugees in Iran to take part in Syrian war.

“I thank all the warriors who cooperated in these wars from Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan and other parts of the world, who attended the wars. In fact it was the war of Islam against infidelity and against the conspiracies of the world arrogance,” Mohaqiq had said.

However, senators during Sunday’s session criticized the deputy CEO for his statements.

Senator Mohammad Hanif Hanafi said Mohaqiq’s statements were against the national interests and Afghan politicians should not encourage their people into fighting in others’ wars.

He said the remarks could produce bad consequences and the Afghans should not be dragged into foreign wars.

Senate chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar said: “I did not hear Mr. Mohaqiq’s statements, but I was affected when Hanafi talked about it, the deputy CEO has really made a mistake.”

He said Mohaqiq had encouraged the Afghans to fight in the Syria war which he called dangerous than cancer.

“We want our politicians to be merciful on their nation and stop their political business, we need to heal our own wounds and we should not be used as a tool for others,” he said.
