MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The police chief for northern Balkh province on Tuesday said he would obey the central government’s orders if the situation turned bad over the governorship issue.
Brig. Gen. Sayed Kamal Sadat told a meeting in Mazar-i-Sharif that no problems had surfaced in Balkh with the change of governors, ministers and presidents in the past.
Few days back, the Presidential Palace announced approving Balkh governor Atta Mohammad Noor’s resignation and replacing him with Eng. Daud, another Jamiat-I-Islami (JIA) member.
However, Noor he had said he submitted his resignation last year based on some conditions.
On Saturday, Noor told a gathering in Mazar-i-Sharif that his party Jamiat-i-Islami gave legitimacy to the last presidential election which had otherwise no legitimacy.
Noor accused CEO Abdullah of 80 percent contributing to the making of conspiracies against him.
Sadat said many governors, ministers and presidents had changed but nothing bad happened in Balkh. He hoped the governorship problem in Balkh would be peacefully resolved.
He said he would obey orders of the central government and Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defense if the situation turned bad.
After Noor’s resigniation approval by the Presidential Palace, Balkh deputy police chief and public order police commander announced support for Noor.
But Sadat said the deputy police chief behavior was based on emotions and mistake. “The MoI watches such statements,” he added.
Interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak recently said police could not make a political stance or interfere in politics.
Zabihullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Jamiat party and a friend of Atta Mohammad Noor said that the use of force was not in their plans.
“We have talked about civil movements, if the Presidential Palace does not positively respond to us, we would organize civil movements in the whole of the country,” he said.
But he said if any force was used against them, it would be counterproductive.
On the other hand, the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) said it would soon introduce the new governor for Balkh in a special ceremony.
The Jaimat party says they have no problem with IDLG.
