Kunar farmers arrange day-long exhibition

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Farmers in eastern Kunar province displayed their products at a day-long agriculture exhibition here on Sunday.

The exhibition showcased agriculture, diary products, fruit, non-fruit and decorative tree saplings and different other handmade materials. Governor Waheedullah Kalimzai was present at the exhibition’s inauguration ceremony.

The governor said “rapid” progress was achieved in the agriculture sector over the past few years. He hoped the government would work more to develop agriculture and livestock in Kunar.

Kalimzai further said 300 chicken farms had been so far created in the province, increasing annual revenue. More than 700 individuals  found job opportunities as well.

Last year, 400 acres of land was cultivated with fruit bearing and non-fruit trees and some progress in the dairy sector had also been seen, he concluded.

Apart from government officials, a number of civilians also visited the exhibition and appreciated the provincial Agriculture and Livestock Department’s achievements. They urged provincial officials to find market for local goods.

Janat Gul Fida, a visitor, told Pajhwok Afghan News that such exhibitions were beneficial for finding market inside the country and abroad and encourage farmers to cultivate fruit trees in their lands.

He further added: “If market is found for handmade products of Kunar, it would gain global attention”.

He urged local and central departments to pay attention to local industry and find proper marker for their goods.

With spring in the air, Kunar officials say more than one million trees will be planted in the province.
