Explosives-laden Humvee seized, defused in Khost

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): An explosive-laden Humvee vehicle has been seized and defused in the Nadershah Walikot district of southeastern Khost province, an official said on Tuesday.

Khost crime branch police chief Col. Sher Daud Arian told a press conference here the explosive-laden vehicle was seized on the basis of intelligence reports.

Without giving details, he said, the target was government institutions and no one had been arrested in connection with the terrorist plot currently being investigated.

The insurgents have recently carried out suicide bomb attacks using previously hijacked military vehicles.

There has been so far no word from the Taliban in this regard.

Separately, Nadershah Walikot residents claimed four security men defected to the Taliban along with a pick-up vehicle, but police rejected their claim.

Meanwhile, police paraded 15 detained individuals before journalists accused of different crimes.

The official also briefed journalists said two Saracha and Mazda type vehicles and two motorbikes had been seized from the suspects as well.

Elsewhere in Khost City, the provincial capital, two people were injured during an exchange of fire between two foes in Spogmai Hotel this noon, police said in a statement.

The incident originated from personal enmity, the police statement said, adding four individuals had been arrested along with two Kalashnikovs.

An eyewitness, Nisar Ahmad, said the two injured persons had been shifted to hospital.

Spogmai hotel usually host elders and tribal leaders for gatherings to resolve disputes.
