60 Daesh rebels killed and wounded in Jawzjan offensive

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Afghan forces killed and wounded at least 60 Islamic State militants during ground and air operations in Darzab and Qush Tepa districts of northern Jawzjan province, an official said Saturday.

Mohammad Reza Ghafori, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News air strikes carried out last night hit three IS hideouts in Maghul and Sardarah areas of Darzab and Chaqmah  Chor village in Qush Tepa district, killing 31 IS members

Another 12 IS gunmen were killed and 17 injured in Sardarah and Mogul villages of Darzab district.

According to Ghafori, air strikes and ground attacks also hit a IS hideout in Chaqmah Chor village of Qush Tepa district, causing huge casualties to the rebels. Ten Daesh members were captured alive by Afghan security forces.

Ghafori said the captured militants had been transferred by an airplane to the Bagram district of Kabul province.

Qesh Tapa district chief Aminullah said six helicopters were involved in the operation in Chaqmah Chor village. The helicopters first dropped commando forces in the area and then targeted IS hideout s in three airstrikes

He said 10 IS gunmen were killed, 12 wounded and more than 10, including two Uzbek families, were captured by commando forces

He said two airmen were also wounded in the air strikes and they were transferred to Shiberghan Provincial Hospital this morning for treatment.

Darzab residents said the situation in the district was calm today, but IS men were not allowing local people to enter Sarda and Mogul villages.

Ghulam Sakhi, a resident, said IS affiliates had blocked traffic routes to the  both villages as they were likely moving their colleagues’ bodies.
