Peace tent set up in Baghlan; need for truce stressed

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Like several other provinces, a peace tent was erected on Saturday by youth and civil society activists in this capital city of northern Baghlan province.

Hidayatullah Mohseni, one of the activists, told Pajhwok Afghan News that they had erected the peace tent in support of the movement initiated by residents of southern Helmand province.

“People are tired of the ongoing conflict in the country and everyone wants to live in peace,” he said, adding the participants urged the Taliban, the government and the international community to priorities  peace.

The time had come for all sides to announce a ceasefire and enter dialogue on ways of ending the decades-long conflict in the country, he believed.

Another participant of the tent, Hayatullah Kayani, held similar view and said peace was every individual’s hope.He called on the Taliban to welcome the recent peace offerfrom President Ashraf Ghani.

A number of other participants also stressed the need for reconciliation. They argued that wars brought miseries and offered no solution to problems.
