Lecturer among 5 passengers killed on Uruzgan-Kandahar highway

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Armed men have gunned down five passengers, including a university instructor on the Uruzgan-Kandahar highway on Wednesday, an official said.

Dost Mohammad Nayab, spokesman of Uruzgan governor, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place in Urdo-Balagh locality of the highway at around 9:00pm on Wednesday morning.

He said the gunmen first snatched the five passengers and later killed all of them.

Taliban militants are involved in most abducting cases in the area and the rebel group kills the abductees, he concluded.

Provincial civil hospital director Dr. Aminullah Tokhi confirmed receiving five dead bodies from the scene area.

A civil society activist, Izzatullah Latifi and a tribal elder Malik Tawoos said killing of civilians and kidnapping cases was ongoing since the past few months in the area. Security forces are failed to control the situation.

Taliban have not yet commented about the incident.

Over the past two months, 21 people had been abducted and 13 were still missed.
