Samangan boy, 13, found dead at home

AIBAK (Pajhwok): A 13-year-old boy was found hanging dead inside his home in Samangan yesterday, taking the number of suicide deaths to five in one and a half months in the northern province, police said Tuesday.

Police said their primary investigation showed the boy hang himself with the help of a rope. Police said they were investigating the incident.

It was a fifth such case taking place in Samangan during the past one and a half months.

Police spokesman Munir Rahimi told Pajhwok Afghan News the child was named Zubair, a citizen of Aibak, the provincial capital, and a grade sixth student.

He said police initial investigation showed the boy took his life yesterday by strangulating himself at home. He said police investigation continued to know the cause of the suicide.

But one of the relatives of the child, who did not want to be named, said the child hanged himself after his mother prevented him from drinking in a pond at home.

Those who took the extreme previously in Samangan during the past one and a half months included a 20-year-old student of a Darululum, a resident of Sarkanda village.

The three others were  a 14-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy of Largagan village and a 20-year-old woman in Dara Sauf district.
