17 killed in blast at voter registration centre in Khost

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Seventeen people, including a woman, were killed and 37 others injured in a blast that hit a voter registration centre in southeastern Khost province on Sunday, official said.

The explosion happened at around 2:00pm inside the Yaqubaio Adi Mosque, which has been chosen as the voter registration facility in Khost City.

Deputy Public Health Director Gul Mohammaddin Mangal said 17 bodies and 37 injured had been shifted to hospital from the site of the massive bombing.

Acting Police Chief Col. Abdul Hanan Zadran told Pajhwok Afghan News at least 30 people were killed and injured in the blast.

A woman, said to be an employee of the Independent Election Commission, is among the dead. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the blast.
