Over 130,000 displaced by conflict since January

KABUL so far during the current year, UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says.

OCHA’s Displacement Tracking System (DTS) confirmed the displacement of 132,744 people in 2018, an increase of 5,700 people compared to the previous week.

“Conflict displacement since January is 31 per cent lower than in the same period of the past year, when 192,085 people had been displaced,” Reliefweb reported.

Around 1,200 people, who had fled fighting in Tal-Wa-Barfak district to Bamyan and Kabul provinces in early May, have returned to their homes.

Members of an armed group attacked Kohistan district centre in Faryab province on June 12, driving some 200 people from home temporarily to Almar district.

About 1,000 people have arrived in Tirinkot from different parts of Uruzgan. Clashes in the past week also triggered displacements in Chora and Chinarto , Deh Chopan and Arghandab districts.

“From June 10 to 16, 16,968 Afghan citizens returned from Pakistan and Iran,” IOM said. Some 50 people returned from Pakistan spontaneously and three others were deported.

From Iran, 9,355 people returned voluntarily and 7,560 were deported.
