Foreign mentors training youth, children in Sar-i-Pul

SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Some foreign individuals have been imparting military and suicide bombing training to youth and children in Kohistanat and Sayyad districts of northern Sar-i-Pul province, officials claimed on Monday.

The Kohistanat district has been under Taliban militants’ control over the past three years and some parts of the Sayyad district are also under the insurgents’ control.

Asadullah Khuram, a member of the provincial council (PC), expressed his deep concerned over increasing militant activities in the two districts and added recently 15 foreign trainers had been spotted giving military and suicide attacks training to a number of youth and children.

He accused the government of doing nothing to prevent such activity in the areas.

He did not know the nationality of the foreign trainers. But a resident of the area, who wished to go unnamed, said a number of Uzbekistani, Kazakhstani and Chechen nationals were training the youth and children against the government.

Zabihullah Amani, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the issue to Pajhwok Afghan News but neither confirmed nor denied the presence of foreign nationals in Sayyad district.

He said the governor’s house had several times urged higher authorities to launch clearing operations across the province, but no one had so far paid attention.
