Taliban capture 3 check-posts in Imam Sahib district

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Nine security personnel have been killed and 15 Taliban Sahib district of northern Kunduz province, an official said on Tuesday.

Mohammad Yousuf Ayubi, the provincial council chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants attacked security posts in Joi Begum, Qarghaz and Kanjak areas of the district before dawn.

As a result of the attacks, he said, three security posts in Joi Begum area fell to the Taliban and fierce clashes were ongoing in the two other areas, the public representative said.

He added nine security personnel were killed and eight others wounded as a result of intense firefights.

Another security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, warned check-posts in Qarghaz and Kanjak could also fall if reinforcements did not reach the district soon. The source was unaware of exact casualty figures.

Police spokesman Inamullah Rahmani said 15 militants, including a notorious commander, had been suffered casualties during an overnight clash.

One ANA soldier was killed and six security personnel were wounded, he said, adding additional forces had arrived in the embattled areas. The rebels had been beaten back, he claimed.

Meanwhile, the Taliban also confirmed the assault. Zabihullah Mujahid, the group’s spokesman, said the fighters had stormed security check-posts in Imam Sahib district. He claimed 19 Afghan forces were killed, 13 wounded and their weapons captured.
