Illegal gunmen to be dealt with sternly: Kabul police

KABUL (Pajhwok): Kabul police chief on Thursday said illegal armed men would not be allowed to break the law and warned powerful individuals against interfering in detention of criminals.

Brig. Gen Dawood Amin told a press conference here that he had directed all the 101 Asmaee Zone police personnel to deal with those violating the law sternly.

“No one will be allowed to help release criminals or interfere in recruitment or transfer of police,” he said.

Acknowledging the presence of militants in Kabul’s Paghman, Khaki Jabar, Patkhak, Mosahi and Qarabagh districts, the police chief said clearing operation in these districts would be launched soon.

Amin said 515 individuals had been detained with 39 various types of weapons in connections with 247 crimes and referred to the attorneys over the past one and a half months. He said 144 people, including five women, were detained over drug smuggling charges during the period.

According to Amin, Kabul police captured one kilogram of heroin, 390 kilograms of drugs, 76-K tablets, 1,000 kg of opium, 72 of hashish, 20 pistols and Kalashnikovs during 133 operations in Kabul.

He added 71kg of opium along with some weapons and hand grenades were seized during the period in the limits of 9th police district.

Six landmines, five mortar shells and six hand grenades were recovered in Deh Sabz, Paghman, Qarabagh, Chahar Asiab, Guldara, Shakardahar and Kabul city, the police chief added.

He informed 290 drug addicted individuals had been collected and transferred to the rehabilitation center during the period.
