So far 9.4 million people register to vote: IEC

KABUL and district council polls.

The voter registration process for the upcoming elections has been ongoing in some parts of the country since April 14 and the commission has accelerated its efforts at holding free, fair and transparent polls.

According to the Independent Election Commission (IEC), the registration of eligible voters in the country’s prisons began July 22 and is scheduled to continue until July 27.

Sayed Hafeezullah Hashami, IEC commissioner, told a press conference in Kabul that so far 9.4 million eligible persons, including men, women, Kochis and minorities, had registered as voters.

He further added so far 1.2 million individuals had registered in the database and 120,000 people were daily registered in the system.

He said right now 600 individuals were busy working in the database registration system and an effort was underway to hire another 200 employees in order to reach the figure of registering 200,000 people per day.
