KABUL, Zalmay Khalilzad, in Qatar on Friday.
Earlier, some US media reports said Khalilzad met with Taliban leaders in the insurgency’s political bureau in Doha.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesman, in a statement said their political office leaders and other members based in Qatar met US Special Representative for Afghanistan peace Zalmay Khalilzad.
The Taliban delegation included political office head in Qatar Sheer Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, deputy head Mualvi Abdul Salaam Hanifi, office members Shahabuddin Dilawar, Qari Din Mohammad Hanifi, Mohammad Zahid Ahmadzi and Mohammad Suhil Shaheen.
The Taliban statement said the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan and finding a peaceful way to the conflict were discussed with the US delegation.
It said their representatives described the presence of foreign troops as the main obstacle in bringing peace to Afghanistan and resolving its problems because Afghanistan was an Islamic country and it has its own Islamic and cultural values.
The Taliban said both the sides agreed to continue their meetings.
