20 ANA soldier killed, 2 captured alive in Taliban attack

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): At least 20 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed and two others captured alive in a Taliban attack in western Farah province, an official said on Sunday.

Pushtrod district’s administrative chief Haji Ghausuddin told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants stormed two ANA check-posts in Dokan village late on Saturday night.

He said 20 soldiers were killed and two others captured by the rebels. The check-posts were also overrun and weapons and ammunition seized by the assailants.

Dadullah Qane, a member of the provincial council, confirmed the district chief’s remarks and said the militants also suffered casualties. However, he had no exact figures.

Amin, a resident of the area, as verified the fall of the two military check-posts and said the rebels were still roaming around the locality.

Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi claimed the fighters had seized two ANA check-posts, killing 20 soldiers and capturing 11 others. The fighters suffered no casualties, he added.
