FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): At least eight Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed and as many others wounded in a Taliban attack on their base on the outskirts of the capital of western Farah province, officials said Tuesday.
Shah Mahmod Naimi, deputy Farah provincial council head, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban attacked the ANA base in Khatiwan area of Farah city on Monday night.
Taliban also suffered casualties in Afghan forces retaliatory action, he said without going into details.
However, the second ANA brigade in Farah in a statement said that three soldiers were killed and three others wounded in the incident.
The source said that seven Taliban insurgents were also killed and 11 others wounded.
On the other hand, a local Taliban spokesman, Abdul Hadi, claimed killing 20 ANA soldiers in the attack. He said only three insurgents were wounded in the battle.
He said that the ANA base was captured by Taliban, but local officials rejected the claim.
