KABUL (Pajhwok): Twenty-five military officials and local representatives were killed in Afghan National Army (ANA) helicopter crash in the Khak Safid district of western Farah province on Wednesday morning, officials said.
Noorul Haq Khaliqi, army second brigade spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the helicopter crashed due to bad weather shortly after taking off from the mountainous area in Jajia village of the district at around 9:30am.
He said 25 individuals, including two pilots, were killed.
He added Niamatullah Khalil, deputy commander for 207th Military Corps and two members of the provincial council, including its chief, Farid Bakhtawar were among the dead.
Dadullah Qaneh, a member of provincial council, confirmed the remarks of Khaliqi. He linked the crash with technical issue.
But Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi claimed the helicopter was shot down by the group’s fighters. He also said more than 25 individuals on board were killed.
