KABUL or lower house candidates have called the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC)’s decision that invalidated all votes from capital Kabul, an act in violation to the law.

The IECC on Thursday announced invalidation of votes cast at all polling stations in Kabul due to fraud and rigging.

However, short after the IECC’s announcement, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Thursday evening rejected the decision for invalidation of votes and called it a hasty and politically motivated act.

The IEC had said that invalidating all votes of Kabul was a move disregarding and disrespecting all efforts and sacrifices made during the Wolesi Jirga election process in Kabul.

Meanwhile, a number of leading Wolesi Jirga candidates late on Thursday in a meeting said that the IECC decision of invalidating all votes from Kabul was illegal.

Ahmad Sayedi, a Wolesi Jirga candidate, and representatives of a number of other top candidates including Hasibullah Samim, Sayed Mohammad Mohammadi, Haji Ajmal Rahmani, Khan Mohammad Wardak, Amir Gul Shahin, Salma Akbar, Khan Aqa Rezayee and some others were present in the meeting.

The meeting said that the candidates from Kabul were ready to arrange meetings with the IECC and IEC and hear their reasons for invalidation of all votes in Kabul.

They in a resolution letter said that a number of candidates who secured fewer votes welcomed the IECC’s decision, but those who secured high votes call the decision irresponsible.

The letter said that the IECC ignored the efforts of the IEC for holding election in Kabul and the efforts and sacrifices of voters.

If the election commissions did not respect the demands of the Wolesi Jirga candidates from Kabul then the votes of other provinces should also be invalidated, the candidates said.
