Saudi Arabia ready to facilitate peace talks

KABUL.

National Security Advisor (NSA) Hamdullah Mohib won the assurance of support in separate meetings with his Saudi counterpart and other leaders of the kingdom.

A statement from the National Security Council said an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process, counterterrorism, bilateral and multilateral ties were discussed during the meetings.

The Saudi NSA reiterated the kingdom’s support for the Afghan reconciliation process and reiterated his country’s readiness for sustained cooperation in this regard.

At a separate meeting with Mohib, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) secretary-general urged the Afghan government to introduce a counterterrorism envoy to the forum.

Mohib welcomed the proposal as a positive step in the fight against terrorism. He also appreciated cooperation between the two sides, the statement said.

It was decided that OIC and Afghanistan would draw up a plan to combat terrorism and take serious steps for its implementation.

After meeting the Saudi leaders, the NSA performed Umrah and prayed for lasting peace and security in Afghanistan, the statement concluded.
