KABUL) commissioners would be announced next week, an official said on Saturday.
Presidential spokesman Haroon Chakhansuri briefed reporters in Kabul regarding the president’s trip to Turkmenistan, completion of the list of IEC and the Independent Electoral Complaint Commission (IECC) commissioners proposed by political parties and civil society and Chabahar Port.
According to Chakhansuri, the first shipment of Afghanistan goods weighing 570 tonnes would be sent to India from Zaranj through Chahbahar port tomorrow.
He said the president would see off the goods through the vital corridor and after this, Afghanistan’s goods would reach gulf countries through Chabahar Port.
The presidential spokesman said political parties and election watchdogs had provided two lists comprising 84 personalities to be picked as commissioners for election bodies.
He said seven persons would be picked for IEC, five for IECC and two for the secretariat of both commissions.
He said in mid-March a Grand Consultative Loya Jirga comprised of around 4,000 figures from all over the country would be convened.
Chakhansuri added the three-day jirga would discuss the way forward to peace, redlines for peace and the signing of a peace agreement.
He said peace could not be established unconditionally, adding there should be stress on redlines which should never be compromised.
The presidential spokesman insisted every effort for peace should be administered and moved ahead by the government in order to make it result-oriented.
About Monday’s talks between the Taliban and US special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, Chakhansuri said four points would be discussed in Doha — the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan, Taliban’s cooperation with Al Qaeda, ceasefire and direct talks between the government and the Taliban.
Talking about President Ghani’s recent trip to Turkmenistan, he said a strategic treaty and several agreements in area of economic uplift were signed between the two states.
Agreements in areas of the rail line, oil and gas and aviation were also signed between the two countries, he said. He added Afghanistan wanted similar agreements with other countries as well.
