Taliban want all American forces out within a year

KABUL want all 14,000 US troops to leave within a year.

A US newspaper reported on Tuesday Taliban made the demand a day after the insurgents stormed a joint US- Afghan military base in the south, killing 25 Afghan soldiers.

The Washington Times reported US negotiators, led by Zalmay Khalilzad, had not yet made a counteroffer during the most extensive parleys ever between the two sides.

Initially, the US had suggested withdrawing all forces by 2024 in line with President Trump’s plan to begin cycling out nearly 7,000 troops within the next year.

Taliban leader Syed Akbar Agha was quoted as saying the three to five years pullout plan would let the US show to the world they were not defeated. That was why the rebel outfit had rejected it, he added.
